Now Hiring Team Managers at Hi-Lo Liquor Market

Hi-Lo Liquor Market is a fresh new take on the neighborhood liquor store, with a deeply curated selection of craft beers, boutique wines, and spirits that exceeds expectations but is still the approachable and friendly neighborhood bodega vibe we love!

We are seeking personable, customer-focused Team Manager candidates to join our team immediately. The right candidate will truly enjoy and excel at helping our retail staff succeed in developing excellent recommendations, and excellent relationships with the customers and neighbors that frequent our stores. A successful candidate for this role will be a great all-around person, and someone people want to work with. The right candidate will be reliable, trustworthy through demonstration, and have critical skills that make a manager a true team leader:

  • excellent communicator (consistent daily reports, team priority, using Slack effectively, keeping your team posted on changes or impacts to them)
  • positive team-first approach with your staff, with excellent composure and maturity in handling people in a fast-paced environment
  • exceptional work ethic, with the ability to motivate your team
  • solid time management skills, with the ability to prioritize carefully, and openly status management on progress or issues or changes in priorities
  • keeping the store in top function, caring about the people and the infrastructure that impacts your team, and our customers
  • works autonomously with a self-driven ability to solve problems
  • good organizational skills with the ability to track issues and needs to closure
  • capable of finding, hiring, and developing excellent team members
  • capable of juggling a complex retail operation within the process architecture that Hi-Lo has established, and with an ownership mentality
  • experience with retail and/or on-premise wine+beer service operations is a plus, and is desired, but is not required

Manager duties will include front-of-house team member staffing, scheduling, hiring, store organization, stock management, daily and weekly task tracking, knowledge training, staff meeting planning, invoice processing, receiving monitoring and auditing, some bar shifts potentially (depending on experience), and other team management tasks.  We seek above-average flexible and motivated people that can accomplish the daily and weekly process rhythm and playbook of tasks independently, and that assure team success, not hope for it.  A successful manager will go above and beyond the daily role to get to know the neighborhood and represent the spirit and philosophy of Hi-Lo as something far more important than a bottle shop.  In fact, the successful candidate will understand that we want nothing to do with being a bottle shop, nor with sales strategies or upselling.  We’re people, who enjoy other people, and celebrating each other, and we seek only to show them a bit about ourselves, and the stuff we are excited about.  No “sales” skills are required.

We offer competitive salary and benefits, and prefer to develop talent and promote from within the company.  We offer, encourage, and actively support an inclusive and pro-diversity work environment.  We are a talented, motivated, and fun team (there’s a reason we’re in this business) that works hard – together.

We have good benefits that are getting better and working for Hi-Lo brings with it significant further opportunities for growth as we expand our operations.  For our team managers, we are keenly interested in driving long-term development, and commitment beyond the neighborhood stores as part of the corporate growth team for high performers.  After 6 months, you will be eligible for equity in our growing company that will be above and beyond salaried compensation.  Other benefits include unlimited time off based on a “have fun, get it done” work policy that rewards personal responsibility and freedom to operate in a way that’s great for the company, and great for the people who make it up that all have different needs and lifestyle.  We further cover the costs of certifications to advance your career and knowledge in various product categories.  We recruit the best, because we constantly strive to be the best. We do not yet offer health insurance, but expect that to be offered soon.  If you’re ready to push a growing company forward, and to help be a part of our mission to bring responsible fun, surprise and delight, and exploration of the craft to those who appreciate it, let’s chat.

About Us:

Hi-Lo Liquor Market is a new vision for the neighborhood liquor store and small experiential-focused wine and beer bar, focusing on craft beer and whiskey, but with a selection for everyone in the neighborhood.  We also offer a range of regional wine, a full range of craft spirits, and a small market of fresh prepared foods. We have fully functioning wine and beer bar that offers weekly tasting events, as well as daily service. We work daily to create the liquor store we want in our own neighborhoods.

We are a small team that is focused on driving the success of our retail establishments through a very conscious and consistent and enlightened customer experience with a hospitality-minded framework.  We want to be the best, most customer-focused, authentic, accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable staff in this retail offering.  And we want to do that by representing the rich diversity of people and the market cross section of the neighborhoods we love.  We are actively expanding retail locations with an investor-backed growth plan that will see further significant expansion throughout the LA metro area in the next several years.

Must be 21 years of age or older to be considered (must be able to taste and evaluate and train the retail team on our ever-evolving product range).

A cover letter explaining why you’re the right people leader and why you want to help us grow, and a resume are requested if you would like to be considered. Please submit after the form below.
